The post-conference tour is sold out, but some spaces are still available on the pre-conference tour. It will be exactly the same tour as the post-conference tour, but it will take place from August 7-14, 2015. If you would like to participate in the pre-conference tour, please contact
The post-conference tour is a week-long tour (August 23-30th, 2015) available to Conference registrants which will take participants from the hot and steamy Pacific lowlands of the Chocó biogeographic region to the cool highlands of Quindío and Risaralda on a quest to observe some remarkable species of Zamia. The tour will showcase some of Colombia’s remarkable biodiversity while travelling through two global biodiversity hotspots: the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena hotspot and the Tropical Andes hotspot.
The cycad highlights of the tour include a visit to Bahía Malaga, where four different Zamia species can be observed growing in close proximity to each other (Z. amplifolia, Z. chigua, Z. obliqua & Z. roezlii), and a visit to the cloudforests of Risaralda to visit the enigmatic plicate-leafleted Zamia oligodonta. The tour will also include visits to several gardens and botanical collections with interesting collections of native plants (including cycads) and visits to other interesting habitats such as the Cocora Valley, home to a massive population of the tallest palm tree in the world.
The tour will have a maximum occupancy of 15 people and spaces will be allotted on a first come-first serve basis.
